In December I accepted a new position with in Sodexo. The new position I agreed to do required me to move to Grand Junction, CO. I had been to Colorado a few times before and loved my time in there, but I had never been to Grand Junction. I did some research on the town before I applied and it seemed like it would a great place for me. So over my Christmas break I spent it packing and saying good bye to friends, and finishing up lose projects at work.
I had one of the best New Years ever hanging out with friends all day and night. My good friends Martin and Theresa came into town for the night. During our trip to the dollar store to buy supplies for the night we came across duck bill whistles, so of course we bought them. After meeting at my place getting ready and starting the night off slowly, the large group parted ways. I and two other friends had pass to the Green Room for a the night. So we spent the night there dancing our feet off listening to the return of Whiskey Rodeo. At one point during the night I was called to the stage to dance, all thanks to the duck bill I had been blowing all night. At around midnight we cleared out of the green room to head to watch the pine cone drop. After watching the Pine cone lower and sing the song to bring in the New Year I see friends, employees and old acquaintances that I say good bye too, maybe for the last time in our lives. The night ends with me finding Theresa and Martin at Collins to finish the night dancing. My feet were swollen and sore the next morning but totally worth it.
I spent the rest of the week packing and getting ready for my big move on Friday. On Thursday my friend Sam and went and picked up the U-haul. varies friends stopped in at different points through out the day to help load it. Everything was all loaded and the apartment all nice and clean that night. On Friday morning Zach, Sam and myself climbed into the U-haul and off we went to find Grand Junction. Learned the lesson of having the drive look at the directions too before leaving, when Sam went straight at a place where we were suppose to turn. But we realized it early enough that we only had to back track 20 minutes. It was a very pretty drive through Utah to enter Colorado. Once we got into Grand Junction my new landlord came to find us and show us the way to the house.
My new apartment turned out to be much more than I expected. I was told it was a 500 sqft studio, it is really a cute 500 sqft one bedroom. Which I pay the same as I did in Flagstaff for my 250 sqft studio ( I got an up grade for free). After taking the piggy in and taking the car off the trailer, getting the u-haul park. It is time to explore for food and just to see where I have chosen to move. We had ourselves an early night after the long drive. Saturday was a day to unload and return the Truck, which all went very quickly and the set up of the new place went fast. That night we went out to check the life of down town. We found it to be not so happening, which is still the case two months later.
Sunday after a picking up the rent a car for the boys to drive back to Flag we went for a beautiful drive through Colorado National Monument. It was very pretty and nice to get the last few hours with my friends before I would be a loner.
Monday I started my new job, when I walked into work it was much smaller than I expected, also was not entirely sure what I expected. Everyone was very nice and informational. It was Thursday before I even met my new Boss.
Its been two months since I have moved and started all over with my life. In the past two months I have spent a great deal of time working long days and weeks. I believe I have had only one week where I worked only five days. But I have been up and active since I've been here. My bike is fixed and I am determined to ride it to work every day now. I have been ice fishing for the first time (only caught a sun burn- worth it). The DM took us as a team to a local Gala, very good time in a pretty dress for an excellent dinner. I have picked up running again and have been very good at keeping it in my daily routine. My new friend Richard has invited me to join him cross country skying tomorrow, I be sure to let you know how much I fall. It seems that I can find good live music when I do adventure out.
It's been a good change for me. I am slowly getting out and meeting more people and taking up some as friends. It will be great next weekend to see my Flagstaff pals in Vegas and fill them on my adventures and hear about the same old same old Flagstaff stories.
